Good post, but the first entry is not quite right. 21 was very loosely (and I mean loosely) based on the book Bringing Down the House by Ben Mezrich. The characters in the movie are not exact representations of the real figures, as the others on the list are. The names aren’t even the same in the movie.
the actual people in “21″ include 3 ASIAN MALES. Of course, they keep the “token Asian girl,” and replace the men with WHITE FOLK. Screw this movie and screw Hollywood.
hmm, I take it you haven’t seen any movies that are more then 5 years old have you?
The Great Escape, The French Connection, Escape from Alcatraz, Shindler’s List, should I go on?
Blackhawk Down, Hotel Rwanda, Awakening, Lorenzo’s Oil, The Dam Busters… more?
Apollo 13, Motorcycle Diaries, Chopper even the new release The Bank Job is better then any of the movies you mention.
If you have run out of idea to publish the saddest thing to do is create a top 10 and then do such a crap job at it.
@ Steve: No need to be a dick about it, I’m sure these are the author’s top 10. If you don’t share the opinion then express it without shooting down the other person. Seriously man, c’mon and have a little class.
Lighten up chippy. Its a subjective list. The author listed their own top 10. However, I must agree that a few of the films you mentioned Schindler’s List, Hotel Rwanda, Apollo 13, Escape From Alcatraz, Legally Blonde, etc. FAR exceed some of the crap on this list!
So, in essence, you’re both correct and yet both wrong. Welcome to Blogworld.
lame. have you EVER seen a foreign movie based on true characters/happenings? didn’t think so. typical blockbuster-hollywood-shitlist i’d say. couple of good movies, though.
exorsism of emily rose? aaaahahahahha aaahaha aaaah haahha.
Steve isn’t wrong… This list is clearly a list drawn from a very limited catalog of only recent films. 21, good or not, doesn’t deserve to be in the company of these other arguably better films, and many of those remaining films should be replaced by older, better movies…
Hi fans, I’m back. thanks for all the words of support, no really.
Hey admin, hats off to you for not deleting my post.
Here are some more movies I suggest you look at. All of which won Oscar’s some not so long ago either.
Good Night and Good Luck
Capote
Last King of Scotland
All The Presidents Men
The Killing Fields
Shine
JFK
Dog Day Afternoon (kind of based on a true story)
Ghandi
Munich (I didn’t like it personally)

nice. blow is one of the best movies i’ve ever seen
Nice list! “Monster” starring Charlize Theron portraying Ailee Wuornos would definitely be in my top 10 though. Theron was brilliant in that movie.
Thats Hollywood for you take out the three asian guys and replace white guys instead.

what about titanic?
Into The Wild was awesome and Chloe Sevingy is Hawt!

thanks Nick
Couple things. Steve, you’re an asshole. And I love how all the actors in Charlie Wilson’s war look incredibly similar to the real thing.
The Pursuit of Happiness was soo damn amazing! it made me cry! lol
The only thing “authentic” about the titanic movie is that the ship sank. Jack and Rose are NOT real people.
Into the Wild is the best of true stories.
I really do not care about them changing the asians in 21 for white americans. It was still a good film and the cast performed well.
Nice list, except “21″ was one of the worst movies I’ve ever seen.
i think alpha dog should have made this list.
All good movies, but where is GOODFELLAS? That’s based on true events as well, and one of the most critically acclaimed movies around.
the list is spot on
Hey Stevo

George Cloney
21 is your number one film based on real people/events?
Give your head a shake! People will have forgotten 21 by December if they haven’t already.
My pic will ALWAYS be United 93. Hands down. Don’t forget to turn out the lights when the rest of these movies go home.
The fact that United 93 also stars some of the REAL people is and added bonus.
what about eric brockovich?.
nice list, thanks for sharing.

thanks to steve for pointing out a thing or two
